West Norfolk’s young musicians come together to perform
Budding musicians from our school joined others to showcase their talents at a workshop and performance.
Organised by the West Norfolk Academies Trust, of which we are part, the MITI (Musical Instrumental Tuition Initiative) event was hosted by fellow member Smithdon High School in Hunstanton, and saw over 50 primary school pupils perform in two musical ensembles.
Children from Snettisham Primary School and Heacham Junior School participated in the event, along with their peers from Hunstanton Primary. The young musicians were divided into a string band and a wind band, and practised several pieces of music together, which they later performed in front of an audience of family and friends.
“This workshop offered an incredible opportunity for students to come together from different schools to make music,” said Benjamin Howell, who is Peripatetic Music Lead at the Trust and oversaw the event with the support of WNAT Director of Music Robin Norman, and Peripatetic Music Team Members Sarah Fitzpatrick, Helen Johnson, Jenny Sargent, Eddie Searles, and David Madison.
“This was my first time leading the MITI Workshop, and we introduced some exciting new elements, including participation for beginner students and piano players, who joined percussion,” he continued.
“It’s not just about the music itself, but also about building camaraderie, confidence, and fostering a love for collaborative performance.”
